How To Make The Most of Your First Internship
By Sam Petragnani
This short article details the importance of taking advantage of your first professional internship and how to leave a lasting impression once you leave.
Make mistakes and seek feedback
It’s an internship, so you’re not supposed to know what to do when you first start. The best thing to do is to ask for help and to not be ashamed about it.
Build relationships with your colleagues and supervisors
It’s very important to build a network. Even though you may not want to work for their company in the future, down the line you’re going to want a recommendation from them.
Stay active
Ask questions, participate in meetings, accept all work that is given to you, volunteer for more work once you finish a task, keep a list of your achievements and goals, etc.
Stay organized and manage your time well
Create a to-do list everyday to keep track of certain tasks, deadlines, and projects. Keeping a clean office space is important too.
Be professional
Dress according to your company’s dress code, be punctual, have a firm handshake, and be on time to work every single day. Leaving a good impression on your supervisors is very significant. They notice the small things that you do that may not seem important.
