This article details how athletic apparel is growing in popularity, even amongst those who don’t play sports.
The Growing Popularity of Athleisure
Athleisure combines the comfort and durability of athletic apparel with the style of everyday fashion and casual clothing. This fashion trend allows people to wear something they would go to the gym in, to dinner later that night. Items such as joggers, performance shirts, and especially fitted athletic hoodies, are taking over the apparel industry. Rather than having to change clothes for certain events, you can have the same outfit for the entire day.
Comfort Has Become A Priority
Traditional athletic apparel is designed to meet comfort and everyday functionality, allowing people to move freely and comfortably. These features are not only significant for athletic training, but also for other everyday activities: going to class, going to work, traveling, etc.
Influence of Social Media and Celebrities
Nowadays, there are a ton of celebrities and content creators on social media that are sponsored or promote athleisure apparel. Consumers see how comfortable and fresh the athleisure clothing their favorite YouTubers or celebrities are wearing, and end up wanting to buy it because it looks good on them.
The Connection Between Sports and Fashion
Sports have always influenced fashion, but the relationship between the two has become increasingly visible. Basketball sneakers, golf polos, and athletic hoodies have become popular clothing staples among people who don’t participate in those sports. As sports and fashion continue to overlap, athletic apparel will likely remain an important part of everyday wardrobes.
