This article details the ways that social media influences our daily lives, in both positive and negative ways.
Communication & Relationships
Social media is significant for the communication between your friends and family. If it’s through Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, LinkedIn, etc., they allow you to stay connected no matter where you live. People can share pictures and videos, rather than relying on phone calls or text messages. However, you do not want to solely rely on social media for ways to communicate with people, reducing in-person interactions. It’s important for that maintenance of an equal amount of time on social media and face-to-face interactions.
Shopping
Nowadays, online shopping and purchasing is very popular, and social media has influenced this in a lot of ways. Companies promote their new products and services on social media (like Dreissig Apparel!) to boost engagement and brand awareness. Influencers and creators also play a big role in the advertisement of new apparel, products, services, etc. However, this does make shopping more convenient, but could also lead to unnecessary spending.
Mental Health
Social media can have both positive and negative effects on your mental health. Social media gives you the ability to connect with your friends and share personal accomplishments. However, if you’re constantly comparing yourself to others, this leads to stress and insecurity. It’s important to take breaks if this is the case.
Entertainment
Whether you enjoy watching funny videos, sports highlights, cooking videos, etc., social media is a great place for all of this content. Although this content can be enjoyable, excessive doomscrolling can become an everyday distraction.
News
Another major influence of social media is how people receive their daily news. In the past, people relied on newspapers, tv, and radio. Nowadays, you can stay up to date with anything with the click of your thumb. However, there is a lot of misinformation out there on social media, so be careful before sharing it.
